Description
Here is my third completed model for 2024 - Tamiya's new 1/48 scale British 2-Ton 4x4 Ambulance. Just for the record, this is the Austin K2/Y "Katy" ambulance that saw widespread service on all British fronts and in home service. 13,102 were built.
With only 57 green plastic parts and another few on a small clear sprue, this is a fast build. I finished assembly in three hours yesterday evening, including a break for pizza.
Painting took a little longer but it was done in a single broken day.
I took inspiration for the finish from a photograph of Princess Elizabeth in front of a very clean machine. I thought the variations of texture, colours and sheen were interesting, especially the shiny front body, the bluish-green shade on the roof and narrow side panels and the black wheel rims with red bolt heads.
I'll be writing this one up for an article in Issue 216 of Model Military International magazine.
