Description
Here is Tamiya’s new 1/35 scale Panzer IV Ausf. F.
This model was a joy to build.
The tracks are link and length although the approach is somewhat different from Tamiya's recent efforts. Instead of having a single long run for the top and bottom of the tracks, this kit supplies a combination of single, dual and seven link sections. A jig is included for assembling the upper run with the correct sag.
The guide horns of the track links and lengths are hollow - very impressive. Fit of the tracks is perfect too.
I built the model straight from the box, including the decals and figures. However, just to prove that not even Tamiya can make a model 100% idiot-proof from a real idiot, I managed to glue the transmission inspection hatches (parts E16 and E34 x 2) upside down, with the scoops facing forward.
The figures are beautifully detailed and feature relaxed, natural poses.
Assembly of the model took two days, painting and weathering took another two days and the figures one more day.
I’ll be writing this one up for a detailed article in MMI Issue 180.
Thanks to Tamiya Japan for the sample
Tamiya kits are distributed in the UK by The Hobby Company Limited for the sample.
