German Infantry Set (WWII)Tamiya, 1/35 scaleReviewed by Brett Green Summary
FirstLook Over the last decade, Tamiya's 1:35 scale figures have seen a noticeable improvement in quality, particularly their faces and general poses. I have been very pleased to use Tamiya's recent crew figures straight from the kit box without any hesitation or fear of compromise. These new-generation figures have been available as part of military vehicle kit and a handful of standalone figure sets including their U.S. Tank Crew European Theatre and German Tank Crew sets. Now Tamiya has released a 1:35 scale German Infantry Set (WWII). Five full figures are included. These are made up from 94 parts in grey plastic.
Facial expressions are neutral and sculpting is excellent.
Five Wehrmacht soldiers are provided. Two of the figures off the option of a helmet or a side cap. The other three are wearing helmets. The poses are relaxed. Three figures are standing. One of the figures is kneeling over a loaded grenade case. This may be posed open or closed, empty or full.
Another has one foot on top of a small pile of rubble. Tamiya has even included the pile of rubble!
Weapons, canteens, gas mask cases, bread bags, mess tins and trenching tools are supplied as separate parts. The NCO also has binoculars, an MP40 machine gun and ammo pouch.
Decals are supplied for shoulder epaulets, collar insignia, cap badges, sleeve rank insignia, chest eagles, belt buckles, medals and ribbons.
These will be much easier and more precise than painting. Instructions are provided for placement of the decals.
This versatile set will be useful for German WWII dioramas and vignettes, or as a standalone figure scene. The insignia decals will be much easier and more precise than painting too. Highly Recommended. Thanks to Tamiya for the sample.
