FirstLook

Over the last decade or so, Tamiya's 1:35 scale figures have made a noticeable improvement in quality, particularly their faces and general poses.

I have been very pleased to use Tamiya's recent crew figures straight from the kit box without any hesitation or fear of compromise.

These new-generation figures have been available as part of military vehicle kits and a growing number of standalone figure sets including their U.S. Tank Crew European Theatre, German Infantry Set (WWII) and German Tank Crew sets.

Now Tamiya has released a 1:35 scale US Infantry Scout Set. Five full figures are included. These are made up from 102 parts in grey plastic.

Facial expressions are neutral and sculpting is excellent.

Five WWII US Army soldiers are provided. Two of the figures have a nicely textured netting on their helmets while the other three are smooth.

The poses are fairly casual. Three figures are standing. One of the standing figures, presumably an NCO, is holding binoculars. Small oval bases are supplied for the three standing figures.

One of the remaining figures is on one knee and balancing on his M1 Carbine rifle. The final figure is kneeling and speaking into an SCR-536 handie-talkie.

M1 Garand rifles, M1 carbines, BAR guns, Thompson guns, canteens, trenching tools, hand grenades, bayonets and M3 fighting knives are offered as separate parts.

Decals are supplied for rank insignia. These will be much easier and more precise than painting.

You’ll have plenty of decals left over for future WWII US Army figure projects too.

Instructions are provided for painting, assembly and the placement of the decals.

This versatile set will be welcomed for WWII dioramas and vignettes, or as a standalone figure scene. The insignia decals will be much easier and more precise than painting too.

Highly Recommended.
