JAGDTIGER - Building Trumpeter’s 1:16 Scale Kitby Sam DwyerAFV ModellerReviewed by Andrew Judson Summary
FirstRead AFV Modeller Magazine has been around some time now, bringing out their great magazine and special publications. Here we are presented with their latest book, authored by well-known Australian modeller, Sam Dwyer.
The book, JAGDTIGER - Building the Trumpeter 1:16 Scale Kit is 163 pages in softback format, on high grade semi-gloss paper. The content is quite comprehensive with an introduction to both the real vehicle and also the kit and what’s included in the box. From there, Sam covers each stage of the build with well written content and great pictures to go along with it. He explains all the modifications he made along the way, which are many, supplemented with pictures to illustrate exactly what he did.
There is also excellent informartion on how he painted this big beast in the many steps required, providing information on the paints, brands and colours used. He also explains the weathering process and how he achieved the great effects to create the realistic finish. There is a gorgeous Gallery of the finished model from all angles showing of this extremely well done piece. Finally, there is a very nice set of references photos that he Sam to add all those extra details and finishes. I am sure these will be helpful to anyone building this kit. There is also a small catalogue of products that are suited to this kit offered by the team at AFV Modeller.
I think one of the best things about this book is the brilliant photographic content throughout the pages, which really shows you everything you need to know to build the kit. The information is simple to understand, and one could honestly use this book as a secondary set of instructions. Sam Dwyer has done a great job with this publication, and I would say if you have the vehicle or are thinking of building a kit no matter what scale, this would be a great addition to the library and aid to your project. A great book! Thanks to AFV Modeller for the sample www.afvmodeller.com |
