FirstRead

This book, the first from the Oliver Publishing Group, follows on from earlier titles available from The Factory Publishing and covers wrecked and disabled Panzers in Normandy 1944. It is similar informat to the earlier titles and offers an additional page of colour plates (9 in total) in its 33 pages.

This book is essentially a collection of photos supported by colour plates. These appear to be mainly sourced from the Imperial War Museum collection. Pictures are clear and presented in large format, usually 2-3 to a page allowing the reader to see the detail.

The Author has given a listing of the German armoured formations involved in the Normandy fighting with brief descriptions of these units and their service in Normandy. The captions for the photos are detailed and in the majority of cases have identified the units to which the vehicles belonged. The colour plates cover a variety of vehicles including Stugs, Panzer IVs, Panthers, Tigers and half tracks. These are shown with scrap view illustrations where appropriate to display markings.

The Author has speculated where details are not clear but this has been declared in the text. Where units could not be identified the Author has stated so.

This book will appeal to fans of German Armour, modellers and historians alike. It shows a side of the German Armour rarely seen and in my opinion this should be encouraged. Modellers should find many an interesting scene to depict within its pages.
