Eduard German Infantry Grenades
WWII (TP514)
by Frank De Sisto
Photo-etched brass in 1/35th-scale. Price: $19.95 USD.
The name of this set is a bit mis-leading, since there are no details
provided for German grenades in this set. Rather, it contains the ribbed
metal containers that were used to transport quantities of the StG24 stick
grenade. There are parts in nickel-plated brass for three of these cases
and their back-pack frames. The single pre-colored fret contains the various
pack straps and belts used to transport these items.
The cases themselves are rather complex and will be a challenge to modelers.
Each half of the box must be folded together, with care being exercised
so the rounded edges are properly done. Then the interior grenade packing
frames have to be folded and positioned. Finally, the parts to represent
the stiffening ribs, as well as the handles, strap fittings and latches
are added. If the modeler wishes, then the pack frame (there are two sets,
but three boxes) can be added.
So, this is a rather nice, if complex set, recommended only to the more
advanced modeler. One use of these items comes to mind; they can be used
to neatly depict crushed boxes as part of a vignette or diorama.
Recommended.
