StuG III Storage and Equipment SetBlitz by Takom 1/35 scaleReviewed by Brett Green Summary
FirstLook Now here's a clever idea! Takom's simpler and lower price brand, Blitz, has released a 1:35 scale StuG III Storage and Equipment Set. This is hardly a revolutionary concenpt but most stowage sets until now have been resin, which can be expensive and might require significant clean-up before assembly.
By contrast, Takom's StuG III Storage and Equipment Set is presented in grey-coloured injection moulded plastic on conventional sprues. Takom's 1:35 scale StuG III Storage and Equipment Set comprises 156 parts in grey plastic, two photo-etched parts, one length of twisted copper wire and two instruction diagrams.
This stowage set is most directly applicable to Takom's late-version StuG III Ausf G and StuH 42 kits as indicated by the canvas Saukopf mantlet cover, but the great majority of parts are generic and might be used on almost any WWII German tank.
Contents include sandbags that have been keyed to fit the forward hull, two milk churns, various boxes, jerry cans, two buckets, an unditching beam, two fuel drums and one optional cover, various wooden boxes including two with nice canvas covers, a rail around the rear deck, six helmets, Saukopf mantlet cover (tarpaulin), oil tins, a copper wire tow rope with separate plastic end pieces and more. The handles for the buckets are supplied on a small photo-etched fret.
The drape of the mantlet tarp and the woodgrain on the boxes are convincing. Many modellers prefer working with plastic parts as cutting, cleaning up and gluing is easier. This set hits the spot.
Blitz's 1:35 scale StuG III Storage and Equipment Set should be warmly welcomed by anyone building any of Takom's family of StuG III Ausf. G and StuH 42 kits. Highly Recommended. Purchased by the Editor from BNA Model World
