FirstLook I have grouped 5 of Voyagers newest releases for this review with a grouping of the 3 updates for the German 250 Neu Halftrack.
PE35235: WW2 German Sdkfz 164 Nashorn (Dragon)This set is labelled “basic” but it is far from it! Covering 9 photo etch frets together with 15 resin pieces and 1 length of tow wire. The six well laid out pages of easy to follow instructions cover most of the internal fittings in the fighting compartment with a few for the gun. There are 41 construction sequences. The main parts covered are the stowage and ammunition compartments and smaller fittings (like gas mask holders and alike). The brass itself is first class and the bend marks clearly defined. Overall this is a great set and would add certain finesse the to Dragon kit as well as adding scale thickness to the various fittings inside the vehicle.
PE35237: WW2 German Sdkfz 149 Flakpanzer 38t (Tristar)Covering 10 photo etch frets, together with 8 resin pieces, 4 brass shells and 3 lengths of wire. The six well laid out pages of instructions cover most of the internal fittings in the fighting compartment; with the other half devoted to the Gun. There are 65 construction sequences. The Gun shield is completely covered, as is the shell collection bag. Eight shell cartridge cassettes are included and cover 8 photo etch pieces each. The 4 cartridge boxes are included and cover 8 photo etch pieces. The level of detail, as well as the clearly defined bend marks would make this set a real bonus for the already excellent Tri-Star kit.
PE35241: WW2 German Sdkfz 250/1 Neu Halftrack (Dragon)This set covers 7 photo etch frets together with 23 resin pieces, 1 instrument film ,2 turned brass parts and 2 lengths of plastic rod. The three well laid out instructions sheets cover 59 construction sequences which covers most of the detail in the fighting compartment. The photo on the box top is a little misleading, as it would have you believe that stowage bins and fenders are included, but they are a separate set (PEA141). The etch, for the most part, is very well done, with the floor plate being finely reproduced. The radio brackets and instrument panel are included, with the latter having a clearly reproduced film for the instrument face. The resin castings are very well produced with no air bubbles present. Resin replacements include the radio, transmission housings, gasmasks, and guns. Overall, this is a great set and would add certain finesse to the Dragon kit as well as adding scale thickness to the various fittings inside the vehicle.
PEA141: WW2 German Sdkfz 250/1 Neu Halftrack (Dragon) Stowage bins and fendersThis set covers 2 photos etch frets with 2 pages of easy to follow instructions covering 26 construction sequences. 2 finely turned brass parts and one very well cast resin muffler are included. The show piece in this set is the side stowage bins. With work, they could be made movable. The tricky bends on the piano hinge of the stowage bin lid are handled well. This is one of the best solutions I have seen for this problem bend for a long time. This set covers all the stowage bins and fenders. The bend marks on all the etch pieces are clearly defined and as with the previous set would greatly enhance the Dragon kit. This set may well be a good “starter set” for large scale “uber detailing” as it looks fairly easy to put together.
PEA142: WW2 German Sdkfz 250/1 Neu Halftrack (Dragon) Amour plateThis is the last set to update for the Dragon kit and Covers 24 construction sequences on 2 pages of very easy to follow instructions, 1 large photo etch fret covers the entire upper and rear armour plate and is basically one piece with clearly defined bend marks (which will make assembly fairly easy). The great bonus is the illusion of “scale thickness” when using this sort of set. The other frets cover the engine access doors, rear plate and door, armoured visors and machine gun shield. Four finely cast resin pieces cover the visor head pads and Machine gun. . This set is very impressive in both its design and execution. Highly Recommended.
