StalingradVehicles Colors German and Soviet Camouflage in the Battle of StalingradAMMO by Mig JimenezReviewed by Brett Green Summary
FirstRead The latest book from the AMMO by Mig Jimenez’s growing library is “Stalingrad – Vehicle Colors”. This title covers both Axis and Soviet vehicle camouflage and markings during the Battle of Stalingrad. It is principally a book packed with attractive colour artwork.
88 full colour glossy pages are presented between soft cardboard covers. The front cover has a foldout that will allow you to store related references – a nice touch. Dimensions of the book are 210 mm x 295 mm. Text is presented in English, Spanish and Russian. The book kicks off with a brief historical text supported by wartime photos of the battlefield. Some of these are in colour. Also included are a number of maps and diagrams. We then get into the meat of this subject – captioned colour profiles of wheeled and tracked military vehicles that took part in the Battle of Stalingrad.
German units are covered first over a total of 43 pages. These are organised by units – Jager Division, Sturmgeschutz units, Panzer Divisions and motorised infantry units. 28 pages of Russian tanks, trucks and other vehicles follow, also organised by unit. The artwork is very nicely done with full light and shade plus weathering depicted. Captions include details of the individual vehicles and operations of the units during the battle.
This is a quality title that will be welcomed by Eastern Front enthusiasts. There is plenty of inspiration for modellers too! Recommended. Thanks to AMMO by Mig Jimenez for the sample
