Eduard Challenger 2 Iraq photo-etched brass (22066)

by Frank De Sisto

Contains one fret and three pages of instructions. Price: $19.95 USD.

As more and more new kits are released in the smaller scales, many after-market manufacturers continue to follow up with accessories for them. Eduard has now released an etch set to detail the recent DML kit of the Challenger 2, as used in Iraq, during Operation Telic. The kit starts out with parts to detail the turret. These include frames for the periscopes on the commander’s cupola, brackets for the smoke discharger clusters and ammo box, belt and tray for the hatch-mounted GPMG. There are also complete sets of the flat and louvered CIP panels for the front, sides and rear of the turret.

The engine deck receives completely new grills and screens as well as some small grab handles. These last may suffice in this small scale, but purists will no doubt replace them with very fine wire. The hull rear receives very smartly done tail lamp arrays complete with brush guards, as well as separate racks for the communications wire reel. There are also new rear fender/mud flap assemblies as well as locking devices for the two external fuel drums.

The front end receives new fender/mud flap assemblies, as well as fire extinguisher brackets. There are also small parts such as wing mirrors, hatch handles and tool box hasps, as well as new splash plate for the area in front of the driver’s hatch. This last item would not be fitted if the appliqué armor pack is mounted.

Yet again, another simple yet effective way for the modeler to detail his next Braille scale gem.

Highly recommended.
