British ATMP w/ Rescue StretcherGecko Models, 1/35 scaleReviewed by Andrew Judson Summary
FirstLook At the time this kit was released, there was also a set of British figures to go with it, which I mentioned this in. Here we have Gecko Models’ brand new 1:35 scale British ATMP (All Terrain Mobility Platform).
This vehicle has been in use since 1988 in various roles from logistics to the battlefield as a support vehicle for various units including paras, artillery, medics and more. It is able to traverse rough terrain with its six wheels, carrying up to eight equipped troops. It can carry up to 1600kgs of equipment. The ATMP has been used for towing trailers, artillery pieces, Rapier Air Defence system, and can also be armed with both a 12.7mm and 7.62 mm MG using WMIK mounts. The vehicle has been used in Kosovo, both Iraq conflicts and in Afghanistan until 2010. Gecko Models has just released a 1:35 scale ATMP. I believe that this is the first time that we have had a 1:35 scale ATMP as an injection moulded kit. The parts are contained on 30 sprues of various sizes in a grey coloured plastic, a photo-etched fret and a 16 page instruction booklet.
The moulding quality is very good, requiring minimal clean up, and feature nice surface detail. I was surprised to see that the wheels are plastic including the tyres, six parts per wheel, but they are very well done and will look great once painted.
The driver figure is nicely detailed and perfectly moulded, with a choice of two different heads.
The photo-etched fret is useful supplying mesh and fine detail parts.
A clear sprue is included, with lenses for the various lights.
Looking at the instructions and the construction process, you will start off with the lower hull tub, the roll cage and seating, placement of the wheels, and finally the stretchers on the back, and the driver figure that is included. When it comes to painting this , there are two options – green and sand. I think either will look great. I really like this one, and can heartily recommend the kit to all who love modern subjects. I’m really hoping to see other variants of this being released, especially a gunned-up version. Overall, brilliant! Thanks to Gecko Models for the sample www.gecko-models.com
